Excellence is a unique, beautifully structured way to make a difference in a field that is ripe for change and needs your help. Those already committed to the effort include some of the most impressive researchers, thoughtful voices and visionary philanthropists anywhere in the world.
Underwrite independent research. Support a promising new program. Help spread the hope for recovery with education programs for families and health professionals. Ensure that Excellence itself remains strong and able to achieve its goals. When you see what others are doing and back their efforts, progress is fast and rewarding.
Creating your own fund may be an inspired choice, whether you want to focus your efforts on a specific area of mental health, give directly to nonprofits of your choice, or develop an initiative of your own.
Estate planning gives you the opportunity to give more than at any other time. We will be honored to work with you and your financial advisors to set up the type of giving you would really like to do.
Please talk with us about the many types of funds you can create, and consider a donor-advised fund.
Decide who to consult. Your family and professional advisors may well be part of these confidential conversations, and we are here to assist as well.
Consider your goals. Decide what to give and whether you want to proceed now or plan to leave a legacy. How much do you want to be involved in fund development and grant-making? Would you like members of your family to participate?
Decide what to support. Where do you feel the need is most crucial? What matters most to others in your family or group?
Let us help. We are here to talk with you at any stage, to explain different giving methods, review the existing fund options, explore ideas and develop concepts.

Cash. Because it is so simple, giving via check, wire transfer and other forms of cash is the most popular option. You can give as much or little as you want or combine multiple gifts to establish a fund.
Stocks, bonds or mutual funds. A gift of long-term appreciated holdings may yield greater tax benefits than cash of equivalent value.
Real estate and personal property. Real estate of any kind — a home, a farm, a commercial property, undeveloped land – makes a welcome charitable gift.
Converting a private foundation. Converting a private foundation to an Excellence fund, lets you focus solely on the part you like – grant-making.
We provide options you won’t find elsewhere: staff support and financial oversight for improving mental health care anywhere in the world through donor-advised funds that give you flexibility, influence and involvement. Our mental health focus and international scope are unique.
Regional/Local Community Foundations
Most have donor-advised funds for local use only and limited help in targeting mental health care.
To create a private foundation requires substantial assets and a dedicated administrative infrastructure.
Commercial Charitable Gift Funds
Available through banks and investment companies, comparatively less flexible.
